History of Brown Family Farm

Brown Family Farm has been in our family since our ancestor Thomas Haverfield purchased the land in 1852. Ed (father) and Darrell (son), with their wives Emojean and Connie, farmed the land together from the late 1970's to the early 1990's. Like many others, they felt the financial burden of decreasing compensation for their crops and increasing input costs and, consequently, the cropland has been rented out for the last three years.

In 2002, Craig (grandson) and his wife Katie returned to the farm to spearhead the revitalization of the farm.

Brown Family Farm is a Hoosier Homestead Farm, which is a designation given by the State of Indiana to farms that have been owned by the same family for at least 100 years.
